Museum of the 20th Century in Berlin – Germany
Construction of the Museum of the 20th Century in Berlin
Design and Planning of the Restoration Workshops and Exhibition Preparations for the Three Art Collections: Neue Nationalgalerie, Kupferstichkabinett, and Kunstbibliothek
The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, as the project sponsor, is a world-renowned cultural institution and a significant player in the humanities and social sciences. It includes museums, libraries, archives, and research institutes. Under the umbrella of the Foundation are, among others, the Berlin State Museums, which are among the largest universal museums in the world. Their 15 collections document the cultural development of humanity from its beginnings to the present. With the Museum of the 20th Century, internationally significant collections will be presented together and permanently for the first time:
- the holdings of the National Gallery for 20th-century art,
- the Marx and Pietzsch collections,
- parts of the Marzona Collection anchored at the State Museums, and
- works from the Kupferstichkabinett.
The works will be displayed both in the basement of the Neue Nationalgalerie and, especially, in the exhibition rooms of the new building. The new building, together with the Neue Nationalgalerie, will form a content and functional unit. In the future, both buildings will be connected underground through exhibition spaces.
